Nicht erst seit die Deutsche Telekom und ABB eine Cloud-Lösung für den  Betrieb von virtuellen Kraftwerken angekündigt hat, weckt dieser Kraftwerkstypus ein besonderes Interesse in der Berichterstattung von blog.stromhaltig. Im Jahr 2013 wurde einem Kraftwerksmanager von Next bei seiner Arbeit über die Schulter geschaut und die Rolle der VKs für die Stromwende bei SP-Energycontrol nachgefragt.  Zur Hannover Messe 2013 wurde dann eine Cloudlösung für das Management von virtuellen Kraftwerken präsentiert, welche direkt auf den Data-Mart von blog.stromhaltig aufbaut.

Neuronale Netze sind ein technisches Hilfsmittel, welche Muster erkennen und Entscheidungen automatisieren können. Im Grundlagenbeitrag “Mit Neuronen lernt das Netz denken” wurden diese besonderen Algorithmen verwendet, um bei der Steuerung von Verteilnetzen behilflich zu sein. In diesem Beitrag sollen sie zum Betrieb von virtuellen Kraftwerken eingesetzt werden.
