Der zuständige Übertragungsnetzbetreiber TransnetBW kündigt für den kommenden Montag (8.12.2014) einen Testbetrieb des Reservekraftwerks in Walheim an: Probestart KW Walheim in Hoehe von bis zu 96MW (09:00 Uhr – 20:30 Uhr).

Im Winter 1981/1982 wurde im Kraftwerk Walheim eine mit leichtem Heizöl befeuerte Gasturbine in Betrieb genommen.
Da sie innerhalb weniger Minuten angefahren werden und Strom ins Netz einspeisen kann, wird sie bei Bedarfsspitzen eingesetzt und dient als Reserve. (Quelle: EnBW)

Nach der Fertigstellung des Rhein-Dampfkraftwerkes in Karlsruhe Block 8 (RDK8) und des Großkraftwerk Mannheims Bloick 9 (GKM9) plante der Betreiber EnBW für den Standort Walheim eigentlich eine Stilllegung , die am 15. Januar 2014 durch die Bundesnetzagentur untersagt wurde. Der Kraftwerksbetreiber ist nun verpflichtet bis Mitte 2016 eine Betriebsbereitschaft sicherzustellen.
